When he could hear Grell say that nothing was wrong with her, physically anyway, William visibly relaxed and allowed his face to once again fall back to its normal expression of calm. Even so he was still shaken up inside but managed to hide it perfectly, he needed to so that the redhead would be able to calm down too. Everything to keep both her and the child out of harm’s way. “It is fine Grell. I am here now and the child is unharmed. Do not think of it anymore.” Which of course was an easy thing to say but hard to live by. And for once he knew it by experience. Sighing softly he sat down next to his wife and let her cling to him, after an ordeal of the kind she had had he for once saw no reason not to let her.

“And you should know me well enough to know I would never allow anything to happen to our child. And neither to you.” There was a pause in which he adjusted his glasses, they had slipped down in his mad rush to get to her side earlier. “Both of you matter….too much to me.” Those words were uttered in a quiet voice and he placed his hand on Grell’s. Only then did he realize he had dropped his scythe on the floor the moment she had confirmed she was alright. He was acting too emotional, he was aware of it.
But he couldn’t help it. Not this time.

William’s new calm demeanor helped the redhead to calm herself as well. After all, one of them had to remain stable, and it would certainly never be Grell, even when she wasn’t pregnant and moody. “Will…: She whimpered softly at his words, sinking back down into the blankets as he held her. There was a certain tenderness in his voice she had only heard a small number of times, but each time he used it, it was a reminder to her that he really cared, even underneath that cold exterior he put up. “I love you so much…” she murmured in barely above a whisper at this point, letting a small yawn escape her lips afterwards. She hadn’t noticed that the other had dropped his scythe, and she paid little mind to the fact he had been out of bed. All that mattered to her was that he was here now, and she felt… safe. Her and Rose were safe in William’s arms. With another tired sigh, she patted the bed beside her, requesting that Will give what he was working on a rest and come lay with her. It was probably just paperwork anyways, after all. At least, that’s what Grell assumed.

There was nothing he could do but to hold her and allow the redhead to pull him down on the bed. A part of him wanted to return to his on the nursery, but if neither Grell nor the child was well….it couldn’t have mattered. But they were safe; he would make sure of it and just this once he would let himself linger here. “You always utter ridiculous things. Now rest Grell.” Deep down he knew she would rest more easily if he was next to her. And in a way after what he had just felt so would he. William didn’t like to feel so many emotions at once, he had always had a good ability to control them but for a moment he had fear he wouldn’t be able to anymore. He didn’t like that at all. With a frown he pulled Grell closer to his chest and rested his head on top of her red hair. And then he closed his eyes and gave a sigh of relief.

He woke up when the light from the window hit his eyes, his glasses were still in place since had forgotten to remove them the day before. He still held Grell in his arms and that made him remember what had happened the day before. Without knowing what he did he tightened his grip around his wife until he realized that might wake her up. Maybe he should leave her be while he got ready for work? And that was just what he did.

Now that Grell was in William’s arms, the baby bump securely in hers, she found herself comfortable enough to relax again, even if thoughts of that horrible nightmare were threatening to linger… Instead of thinking about it, she smiled at Will’s cold words, which to her, were heartwarming for some reason. After letting out one last yawn, she had safely drifted back to sleep on her husband’s chest.

Even though William had been the one up working all night, the redhead was still exhausted enough just form the baby that she remained sleeping as the light of day began creeping in. Even Will’s tightening grip and shuffling around had not been enough to wake her, and she remained asleep, even as the time to work drew near.

William had his routine every morning and not even the slumbering Grell could make him break it. It would be enough to scold her later, there wasn’t that he wanted her to rest that he left her be. Oh no not at all. He knew she would whine when he woke her up and so he let her be for as long as he could. Yes, that was the only reason for his actions. Straightening his tie to perfection, hair combed back in place and his suit covering every inch of his body he made it to the kitchen to prepare a small breakfast. Small for him anyway. Grell’s breakfast was significantly larger. Not that he would comment on it.

Eventually he walked back to the bedroom with a frown on his face, took Grell’s ridiculously red and frilly robe and flung it at her head. “I will give you overtime if you are not ready for work and as a result arrive late to your duties Grell.”

The redhead finally awoke with a start as her robe was seemingly flung at her face. She couldn’t see William through the red fabric, but she could certainly hear him, and huffed. “You couldn’t have let me sleep for just a little while longer?” She whined, still trying to quickly recover herself knowing that Will would make good on his threat if she were late. Though, standing was not always the easiest task these days, and the redhead struggled to pull herself from the bed as quickly as possible. She attempted to take a few steps and pull her robe on, but a wave of dizziness suddenly overcame her, and she had to stop at the end of the bed and grip the bedpost before she toppled over. Taking a few labored breaths, she stopped moving altogether, and just concentrated on keeping herself standing. Being pregnant was harder than she expected. “Perhaps I should skip breakfast.” She suggested, not knowing if she’d have enough time to get to work if she was moving this slowly. Damn her fat body!

William had been observing her from the moment she had huffed at him. This was so usual that he didn’t care that it was a little condescending of her to address him in such a manner. Instead he watched as his wife had difficulty to stand properly. Had he been any other kind of man he might have smiled at her and maybe even laughed softly. But no. William’s face was as stoic as ever. “You will not skip breakfast. I have prepared it and the child needs nutrition too. There will be no discussion on this matter.” He watched her for a while longer before he stepped up to her and gentle took her into his arms. It was harder than it had been before and was it only his imagination that his back had cracked ominously? No matter. “Now stay still.” And with that he carried her, slowly, to the kitchen and managed to put her down in her chair without falling over. “Now I expect you to finish this meal without complaint.” He himself walked to his own chair and sat down opposite her, feeling like his back wasn’t made for this kind of thing.

Of course Will had been quick to scold her, but the hot headed shinigami was just too physically strained to want to argue. She did, however, find herself wiggling about uncomfortably when Will moved to carry her. “Willlllll!” She whined in his arms, crossing her own over her chest like a child as her face turned red. She used to love being picked up this way by him, but lately it was only making her feel moody. She could walk on her own, after all. Hell! She could still reap souls if she wanted to! It would just take a little more effort… Effort that Grell was in denial she had at the moment. After a short struggle, she settled into his arms and just allowed him to carry her to her darn breakfast. “Did you hear a cracking noise love?” She questioned once she settled back down, her pouting having been interrupted by said sound. Though, she didn’t give him much time to answer before she found herself digging into her meal. At least there wouldn’t be any more complaints about eating…

For William it was almost offensive that Grell obviously didn’t like his effort to help her. It took a lot out of him to admit he was worried over her and he had carried her to relive her of the effort to walk to the table when he could see she was having trouble. But when she squirmed the way she had been in his arms he felt like this might be the last time he did so. And to save his back too. “No I did not.” It might have been a denial on his part too but he didn’t think the redhead even heard him, engrossed as she was in her food. “I do however think if it will take you this long to move you should wake up earlier in order to get ready for work. I will not allow you to be late.” Both so she could avoid overtime but also because he didn’t want anyone at work thinking he was giving her advantages.
